Location Information
Galera Go is a transport app, so location is core to how it works. Here is exactly what we use it for.
Why we use your location
- Set your pickup. We use your device location to drop a pin at your starting point so drivers can find you.
- Estimate fares and time. Your origin and destination are used to calculate distance, the fare estimate, and arrival times.
- Match nearby drivers. We share your pickup point with the dispatch engine to find the closest available driver.
- Live trip tracking. During an active trip, the driver's location is streamed to you so you can follow the ride in real time.
When we collect it
The Galera Go customer app collects location only while you are using the app("when in use") — for example while you set a destination, request a ride, or track an active trip. The customer app does not track your location in the background.
Driver accounts share location in the background while they are online and on a trip, so that customers can see the vehicle approaching. This is disclosed to drivers separately.
Who it is shared with
- The assigned driver, for the duration of your trip, so they can reach your pickup and drop-off.
- Our mapping provider (Geoapify / OpenStreetMap) to render maps, geocode addresses, and compute routes.
- Anyone you choose to share your trip with via the in-app share link.
We do not sell your location data.
Your controls
- You can grant or revoke location permission at any time in your device Settings.
- If you deny location, you can still enter pickup and destination addresses manually, though pickup accuracy may be reduced.
- Trip location history is retained only as long as needed for support, safety, and legal obligations.
